About Us

Who We Are:

SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF METRO NEW YORK (SIMNY), founded in 2019, is a chapter of Soroptimist International of the Americas, one of five federations (Africa, the Americas, Europe, Great Britain and Ireland, and South-West Pacific) that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs with more than 70,000 members in more than 120 countries around the world. The name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin “soror” meaning sister, and “optima” meaning best. Soroptimist is perhaps best interpreted as “the best for women”.

Vision and Mission:

SIMNY activities educate, empower and enable women and girls in all their diversity to achieve their individual and collective potential. SIMNY supports local, national and, global projects that give women and girls access to education and training to foster gender equality.
